The Ethan Van Bochoven Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Each year, the senior class is encouraged to come together to leave their own legacy on campus through supporting a variety of Messiah University initiatives. The goal is for students to give towards projects that resonate with their own passions, and this year is no different. When the Senior Gift Committee met in late October to discuss the final recommendations for a project, the committee unanimously voted to create an endowed scholarship in honor of classmate, Ethan Van Bochoven, a senior music major who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 12.
It felt appropriate to encourage the senior class and the Messiah University community to come together in a way that would help to carry on the legacy of Van Bochoven, who will be remembered as humble, kind, a genuine friend with a deep love of Jesus...not to mention an incredible musician. These attributes are ones we celebrate as we think about his impact on our community.
This memorial scholarship will go towards supporting a student, majoring in music and who embodies the love of performance and humility that Van Bochoven is remembered for. Please feel encouraged to make a gift towards this endowment and leave any reflections or memories that will continue to tell Ethan's story for those who are just now getting to know him.
Though the 2019 senior class gift campaign has ended, we invite you to continue supporting this endowment in honor of Ethan's memory.
Because of a special endowment matching opportunity authorized by the Messiah University Board of Trustees, all gifts over $100 will be matched dollar-for-dollar.
