Aimee West Cardoso '13 Memorial Scholarship

Aimee West Cardoso ’13 was a bright, vibrant Texan, who came to Messiah University as a competitive swimmer and passionate, young artist. In every stroke of her brush, Aimee demonstrated her talent, her beautiful soul, and her love of Christ. As a gifted athletic competitor, Aimee used her talents in the studio to create works of art which consistently pointed her audience to the beauty and complexity of God’s Created order. Her last body of paintings dealt with the subject of God’s tearing of the temple veil, signifying that Christ’s final and complete work on the cross was finished. “And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.” – Matthew 27:51. Though Aimee was tragically taken from her family, friends and this world far too soon, she has left us with an indelible legacy.

It is with an outpouring of love for Aimee that The Aimee West Cardoso ’13 Memorial Scholarship for Art is being established at Messiah University. This scholarship will provide aspiring art students who are majoring in a B.A., B.F.A, or B.S. in Art at Messiah the opportunity to pursue their calling in the footsteps of Aimee. It will support students who, like her, possess a passion for art, the Gospel of Christ, and a deep desire to make the world a more beautiful place. Moreover, it will honor her artistic achievements and generous heart, and serve as a lasting tribute to Aimee.

“Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, through His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let’s approach God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.” – Hebrews 10:19-22

“Therefore, this joy of mine is now complete. He must increase, but I must decrease.” John 3:30
