Fredricksen Natatorium Sound System Upgrade

Messiah College is a successful Division III member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA); participating in the Middle Atlantic Conference. This means our students do not receive athletic support scholarship aid of any kind. Our student-athletes compete because they love their sport, and they value developing as young men and women of Christian faith alongside each other and our outstanding coaches.

Our student-athletes care deeply about competing at a high level, as evidenced by the 30 Division III National Championships, 159 Conference Championships, and 319 Division III All-Americans that the Falcons have earned since 2000. In a relatively short time since its inaugural season in 2008-2009, the Messiah College’s swim team has been a significant contributor to Messiah Athletics success including three National Qualifiers, six Conference Titles, and one All-American.

With the recent renovations to Fredricksen Natatorium in 2017, Messiah was able to install two new dehumidification units, two exhaust fans, and a spectator seating area. The College now desires to install a permanent sound system for the natatorium. As Fredricksen Natatorium is a high-noise and highly reverberant space, the current portable sound system is ineffective and unintelligible for the spoken word.

Messiah seeks a permanent sound system that is highly intelligible, natural sounding, and easy-to-use. This will create a better, more pleasant environment for swimmers and spectators.

The proposed costs of the project are estimated to be $25,000, which includes sound system equipment, engineering, design, site permits and installation, upgraded electrical wiring, optimization, and training. Additionally, the technology solutions company that is being considered for the job would also provide a sound system demo for a major swim meet to demonstrate their proof-of-design.

We are requesting your consideration of a gift towards this project. If the necessary funds are secured by early fall, we will be able to have the permanent sound system installed before the 2020 swim season begins. We are grateful for your willingness to consider ways in which you might be able to help us complete this project!
